Groups at Ryan’s Place

Peer-to-peer support groups
Many children and teens experience one or more traumatic deaths by the age of 18. when a parent, sibling, grandparent or another significant person in a child's life dies, the child may experience great sadness and other emotions that are often difficult to verbalize. Children are the forgotten grievers in our society.

Ryan's Place provides support in safe environment where grieving children, teens, young adults and their families can share their experience as they move through the healing process. Our services are provided at no charge, for as long as the family needs them.

The programs are held in the following locations:

Goshen Location
Goshen City Church of the Brethren
203 N. 5th Street,
Goshen, IN. 46526

Goshen program meets every other Monday

Elkhart Location
First Congregational UCC
431 S. 3rd Street,
Elkhart, IN 46516

Elkhart program meets every other Tuesday

A light supper is served at both locations at the follwing times:
Goshen at 6:30 pm, with groups beginning at 7 pm.
Elkhart at 6:00 pm, with groups beginning at 6:30 pm

Children’s Groups Sessions are planned for 3-to-13 year olds. Activities such as talking time, unstructured play time, art, music, physical activity and quiet times are all part of the healing process and are included in each visit.

Teens’ Groups Activities are provided for 14-to-19 year olds. The opening of all sessions include an opportunity for sharing and then the group decides on the other activities for the evening.

Adult Group Sessions are also held for adults. Discussions include shared concerns.

Ryan's Place Anticipatory Grief Program

Ryan's Place offers an Anticipatory Grief program to meet the needs of children and teens facing the death of a loved one. This program is designed to help children, teens, young adults and their families cope with the changes that occur at the time of a terminal illness or injury.

Survivors of Suicide


Surviving family members of death by suicide often suffer not only the trauma of losing a loved one, but may also find themselves at a higher risk of suicide and emotional problems. Ryan's Place is now offering an adult peer support group to help these family members and friends to talk about their grief, pain and questions.

The group meets every other week on Mondays in Goshen and Tuesdays in Elkhart from 7-8:30 pm
There is no cost for services at Ryan's Place

Adult Grief Support

Ryan's Place is starting an adult daytime grief support group for adults who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives. The group will meet weekly on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Goshen City Church of the Brethern, 203 N. Fifth Street. Participants may take a "brown bag" lunch; Ryan's Place will provide beverages. This group is facilitated by trained volunteers.

Elkhart Program

Ryan's Place support groups in Elkhart. The program is located at First Congregational Church on 3rd Street.

Start date: Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Then every other Tuesday evening.

Families meet at 6:00 pm for dinner, groups will be from 6:30-7:45 pm. Groups will be divided by age and there are groups for adults.

Goshen Program

Ryan's Place support groups in Goshen. The program is located at the Goshen Church of the Brethren, 203 N. 5th Street, Goshen. Start date: Monday, August 31, 2009. Then every other Monday evening. Families meet at 6:30 pm for dinner, groups will be from 7-8:15 pm. Groups will be divided by age and there are groups for adults. Please call Ryan's Place 574-535-1000 to register for the program or for questions. There is no cost for this program.

RYAN’S PLACE WISH LIST

Ryan’s Place provides peer-to-peer group support for children, teens, and their families as they work through the grieving process. Our services are offered at no charge to the families.

Below is a list of supplies and materials that are used by the groups.

• Craft materials (glue, scissors, paint, etc.)
• Office supplies (staplers, copy paper, scotch tape etc.)
• Lockable filing cabinet
• New pillow cases
• Paper products (paper plates, cups, forks, napkins)
• Area rugs
• Storage cabinets
• Plastic storage containers
